In Loving Memory of Dr. Belinda Johnson Skelton, Ph.D.
April 9, 1951 – February 4, 2025

Dr. Belinda Johnson Skelton, Ph.D., was called home to eternal life on February 4, 2025, at the age of 73. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, wisdom, and inspiration that touched countless lives.

Born to James and Mary Johnson on April 9, 1951, in Atlanta, Georgia, Belinda grew up with a deep sense of purpose and an enduring passion for helping others. Her lifelong dedication to education began with her own remarkable journey: earning her Ph.D. in Special Education and devoting her career to uplifting those who needed it most.

Belinda served as a teacher for Atlanta Public Schools, principal of St. Paul of the Cross Catholic School, college professor at Georgia State University, Learning Specialist for the Atlanta International School and the Trinity School, as well a Sunday school instructor at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. In each role, she shaped countless lives with her compassion and knowledge, always advocating for inclusion, understanding, and the power of education.

Her impact extended far beyond the classroom. A world traveler and devoted volunteer, Belinda offered her time to prison ministries and numerous charitable organizations. As an Associate of the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, she exemplified generosity, giving selflessly to causes close to her heart and faith.

As a wife, mother, godmother, mentor, and friend, Belinda embodied love and kindness. Her unwavering support and encouragement uplifted everyone around her, inspiring them to strive for their best. She was a powerful force of faith and compassion, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.

In addition to her professional achievements, Belinda was an author, a dedicated donor, and a visionary. She lived each day with purpose, setting an extraordinary example of how one life, fully lived, can bring light to the world.

Though words cannot fully express the depth of our love and gratitude for Belinda, her legacy lives on in the lives she touched and the values she instilled. She will forever be remembered as a woman of infinite grace, strength, and compassion—a beacon of light and hope to so many.

She is survived by her loving husband, John Skelton; her son, Vincent Marsh; her sister, Felecia Ashurst; her nieces, Tina Wimby and Sinterrica Tabb; her nephew, Mykle Johnson; and many other cherished loved ones. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and James Johnson, and her brothers, Jason Johnson and Gerald Johnson.

A Memorial Mass celebrating her life will be held on February 15, 2025, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m.
